TIP: We do not recommend renting a car in Costa Rica. All tours include transportation and the experience is much better when they pick you up. Also, driving around Costa Rica can be tricky, we don’t have street names or numbers, so directions are a bit tough.

Carara Biological Reserve is a transitional forest between tropical dry forest and the rainforest that stretches down to the southern Pacific.

Relatively small at just 4,700 hectares (11,615 acres), Carara National Park is one of the few remaining breeding grounds for the majestic scarlet macaw, which is easily spotted during the morning and afternoon.

The park is also a pre-colonial archeological site, with rivers, lakes and waterfalls. Here, you'll find monkeys, aracari toucans, raccoons, coatis, and a wide variety of bird species.

Canopy tours are perhaps the most popular tour in Costa Rica. This is not just an extreme adventure, but a way to enjoy nature without damaging the environment, and a way to enjoy spectacular views of Herradura Bay and the island, as well as the Gulf of Nicoya. You will have the opportunity to see scarlet macaws, toucans, and white-faced monkeys.

The crocodile tour is an adventure along the central Pacific coast of Costa Rica. This tour takes to the Tárcoles River aboard a safe and trustworthy boat. The Río Grande of Tárcoles is one of four rivers that empty into the Pacific Ocean's Gulf of Nicoya. The river offers visitors the opportunity to observe American crocodiles up to four meters (13 feet) long. You'll also spot a wide variety of bird species, as well as other animals like sloths, basilisk lizards, monkeys and more.

The tour is specifically designed for family enjoyment, as well as for large groups. A bilingual guide will take you down the river, while offering educational information about the various species you find. Kayaking is a great way to explore Costa Rica's diverse destinations, many of which cannot be accessed by car or boat.
