We are closely monitoring the Costa Rican Health Ministry, as well as the World Health Organization's statements regarding the coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19) and are keeping up with all the corresponding procedures and recommendations from these agencies and the local health departments.

PRIOR TO YOUR ARRIVAL

 

As of today, entry to Costa Rica is open for all countries. Tourists must comply with some requirements put in place during the pandemic. The Costa Rican Government is NOT requiring coronavirus tests or quarantine orders for those entering the country. Instead, the following requirements have been established:

  • The Health Pass: it should be completed within the 72 hours prior to arrival. It must be accessed on up-to-date browsers, with the exception of Internet Explorer. One form must be completed per person, including minors, without exception. You can find it here: https://salud.go.cr

  • Mandatory travel insurance: your insurance must cover lodging in the event of quarantine, as well as medical expenses in case of contracting COVID-19.

    • ALL TOURISTS (even vaccinated ones) must acquire an insurance policy as described and fill out the health pass form.

 

International Insurance Policies: The insurance policy may be obtained from any international insurance company that meets the requirements that follow. 

  • Valid for the entire stay in Costa Rica (coverage dates)

  • 50,000 USD for medical expenses, including those from COVID-19

  • 2,000 USD for lodging expenses in the event of COVID-19 quarantine

  • A certificate or letter (in English or Spanish) indicating:

    • Traveler’s name

    • Effective dates of the policy during the visit in Costa Rica (travel dates)

    • Guaranteed coverage of at least 50,000 USD for medical expenses in the event of contracting COVID-19 in Costa Rica

    • Minimum coverage of 2,000 USD for lodging expenses due to quarantine or travel interruption

    • This certificate must specify that the policy covers COVID-19 and must be attached to the health pass for review and approval by the Costa Rican authorities. Insurance cards are not accepted, the information must be provided in the form of a document.

 

Costa Rican Insurance Policies: Tourists can also opt for any of the Costa Rican insurance companies, we recommend Sagicor. Our guests have had amazing experiences with them and we believe they are by far the best option available. We actually negotiated a 5% DISCOUNTS for our guests, when acquiring Sagicor's insurance (we don't get any kind of commission for this). Ask us for the promo code! 

**For international policies, the minimum coverage has been set at 50,000 USD, for Costa Rican policies, the minimum is set to 20,000 USD. Costa Rican citizens do not require medical insurance.

 

BEFORE YOU LEAVE

 

If you are required to get Covid-19 Testing before going back home (or to the next country you will be visiting) there are several of options available.

Probably, the easiest and fastest way to get the your Covid Test is at the rapid testing laboratory, operated by Laboratorios Echandi at the Juan Santa Maria International Airport. You can book your appointment here: https://covid.morphotr.com/sagicor.cfm The prices and time for the results vary depending on the test you require. 

  • Rapid Antigen Test | Results in 1 Hour | $65 USD: These tests are only authorized for air travel to certain countries including the United States. You will need your ticket information and passport ready for verification at the testing site.

  • RT PCR Test | 3 Hours | $240 USD: These tests are accepted for travel to all countries that require SARS COV 2 testing. Results are delivered in 3 hours after sample collection. You only need an ID for verification at the testing site.

  • RT PCR | Next Day | $99 USD: These tests are accepted for travel to all countries that require SARS COV 2 Testing. Results are delivered next day between 11am and 11pm, Monday through Saturday, results will take 2 business days when the sample is taken on Sunday. You only need an ID for verification at the testing site.

There are also several clinics available near Pumilio if you prefer to get tested around the area! The price for the Antigen Test is $85 USD + taxes (13%) and PCR Test is $135 USD + taxes (13%). We can also arrange the PCR at the hotel for $150 USD.
